Vol 2: Jennifer Cosgrove Interiors

Inside the ever-evolving, glamorous home of Jennifer Cosgrove Interiors

Welcome to the second installment of Table Talk, a series where I chat with creatives about their design philosophies, everyday rituals, and sources of inspiration. This time I had the joy of speaking with Jennifer Cosgrove of Jennifer Cosgrove Interiors.

She’s a longtime friend of my mother and a truly talented, driven, and endlessly sophisticated designer. Entering Jennifer’s home is like stepping into a story—every corner is styled with intention and every surface thoughtfully arranged. I’ve put together a short clip of her living room here, filled with layered tabletop vignettes and meaningful details.

Here’s a look at what she had to say:

A styled entryway console with framed art of Audrey Hepburn , coffee table books, small-scale decor objects, and a modern lamp—demonstrating Jennifer Cosgrove’s talent for creating impactful vignettes.

Describe your style in three words?

“Eclectic, curated, “tells a story” …that’s five ;-)”

What item in your home gets the most compliments?

“A carved bear’s head from The Black Forest in Germany, and a huge, modern portrait of Audrey Hepburn that my brother-in-law did.” (above)

What’s your go-to styling trick when something feels “off”?

“I would say edit out accessories and re-stage. People get stuck in the idea that once a decorative object is put in place, it has to stay there for years. Move things around, including art…it provides a whole new perspective!”

A styled living room with colorful pattern play and an ottoman surrounded by two styled drink tables in a creative way to display home decor.

Favorite small-space design hack? (Living in NYC is tightttt!)

“Skip the coffee table and use “drink tables” instead, and don’t be afraid to use color or wallpaper on the walls. Sometimes there’s a real benefit in adding a wow factor to a small space.”

Do you consider yourself more maximalist or minimalist?

“It depends on the room… A maximalist in the living room, and more minimalist in the bedrooms… “middle-ist” in the kitchen!”

What’s a design “ick” you can't stand?

“Kitchen cabinets that don’t go to the ceiling, silk flowers, and I’ll admit to not loving quartz countertops. Get marble or quartzite and let life happen!”

What’s your current signature candle scent you can’t stop burning?

“Lafco’s Birchwood Molasses” (shop here)

Favorite coffee table book or magazine you always keep out?

“An original printing of the iconic Dorothy Draper‘s “Decorating is Fun“ given to me by my father-in-law, and a vintage design book that a friend gave to me when he happened upon it while organizing his mother‘s home”

What rituals or objects help anchor your day?

“Making coffee in the morning, and The NY Times puzzles”

Favorite under-$50 find that made a big impact in your space?

“I love a mid-century pink neon number 5 that I found on Etsy because I have five kids, and an antique enamel house number 38 because two of my boys wore number 38 jerseys in college. Both of those cost less than $50!”

What’s the last thing you bought—home-related or not—that brought you joy?

“An antique 2-gallon copper beer pitcher from a British pub.”

Do you collect anything—intentionally or unintentionally?

“Vintage art…paintings that range from mildly important to definitely unimportant….my walls are covered!”

A moody, layered living room showcasing Jennifer Cosgrove’s expert use of pattern and color—featuring richly textured textiles, bold prints, and cozy lighting that create an inviting and inspiring space full of visual depth and personality.

What song or album do you play to get the creative juices flowing?

“I currently love the (little heard of) song Guinness by Mary + Bri.” (vibe below)

I loved Jen’s tip about using small “drink tables” instead of a traditional coffee table in a small space. Such a clever reminder to design with what you have, rather than what you think should be in a space. Her advice about editing out accessories and re-staging when things feel “off” is just as important. It’s amazing how simply moving pieces around can give a room a fresh, new energy. Just because you placed something somewhere once doesn’t mean it has to stay there forever.

Thank you, Jen, for sharing your home and your expertise with us! Be sure to check out more of Jen’s work and everyday styling inspiration on her Instagram @jennifercosgroveinteriors. <3
