Tapered Candles to Elevate Your Tablescape
A curated list of my favorite sculptural, colorful, statement-making tapers for your tabletop vignettes

Tapered candles are such a fun, and often overlooked, styling element. Too often, they’re treated as an afterthought—grabbed from whatever’s left in the drawer or leftover from an old dinner party. But when chosen with intention, they can completely transform a tablescape.
Undoubtedly, they bring instant warmth and height to any vignette, and they’re not just limited to the classic ivory stick. Tapered candles can be playful, bold, even unexpected, adding color, intriguing textures, sculptural shapes, and just the right amount of personality to your table. Don’t overlook the tapered candle!
I’ve created a curated list of some of my favorite unique tapered candles found online and in stores.
Colorful Candles with Pattern:
Left to right: Pygmalion Candles, Marbled Taper Candles, British Colour Standard, Ombre Taper Candles
From subtle ombrés to bold patterns, this selection of tapers add an instant pop of color and personality.
Sculptural Candles:
Left to right: Happy Organics, Hickory Stick Candles, Loewe Wax Scented Candles, Oaxaca Candle
A curated selection of floral, food-inspired, and geometric forms that double as tabletop art. Some that don’t even need a holder and can stand beautifully on their own.
Twisted Beeswax Candles:
A collection of classic beeswax candles that are textured, subtly honey-scented, and timelessly beautiful, each with a unique personality twist.
Showcasing Tapers Between Uses
I recently came across a clever idea from Tremont Home for storing tapered candles: arrange them like a bouquet. It’s a charming way to showcase your beautiful and unique tapers while they wait their turn for the candleholder. Simply place them in a ceramic vase or antique vessel so they’re always on display.
♠ Grace House Rule: Don’t be afraid to actually burn your tapered candles! I so often see the same ones collecting dust, sitting in the same holder for months. Candles are meant to be enjoyed—burn them, rearrange them in a bouquet, try them in a new holder, and let them bring a warm glow to your home.
You don’t need to be hosting to light them; treat yourself like a guest. Set the mood while you serve dinner on your coffee table, snuggle up for a movie, or wake up early on a weekend and admire the morning light in your apartment.
